Welcome to the Veteran Bloodroot Forge Dungeon Guide! (vBRF)
This walkthrough will mainly focus on doing this dungeon on Veteran difficulty, you will also learn how to beat the last boss on Hard Mode (regular mode included as well).
This guide is aimed at beginners who are attempting vBRF for the first time, along experienced players who want a refresher on the mechanics 🙂
Bloodroot Forge was introduced back with the Horns of the Reach DLC and is one of the trickier dungeons in the game. Also one of the best!
Let’s dive in! You will need a sturdy tank for this dungeon, especially on the last boss, so keep that in mind.

Strangler

Stranglers are bad news, they put out AOEs everywhere that quickly take players down. Always make sure to deal with the Stranglers first!
Minotaurs (Cows)

You will encounter two types of Minotaurs in Bloodroot Forge. Both are bad. Always focus on these first.
Firehide: This type will chain two players to the ground, the minotaur needs to be interrupted by a free player or the two chained players will wipe. Chained players need to step away as soon as they are freed – you will otherwise get targeted with a nasty DOT.
Earthgorer: Will put a fire geyser on the ground that spews lava on all the group members. The tank should stand on top of this and block to soak up all the damage.
Fire Shalk

Will target random players in the group with a homing fireball. When you get targeted, you will get a fire texture around the edges of your screen.
When you get targeted, you need to jump onto a rock in the lava. You will see a little fireball chasing you on the ground. The idea here is that when the fireball comes into contact with the lava, it will melt and disappear. So make sure to put lava between you and the ball and wait for it to merge with the lava.
First Boss: Mathgamain

First up in our Bloodroot Forge guide we have Mathgamain – it’s a pretty straightforward fight.
Overview:
- The tank needs to make sure to pick up the adds as best as possible.
- Keep the boss faced away from the group – the cone AOE will one-shot squishy players.
- Kill stranglers first! Always kill stranglers first!
- Make sure to deal with the adds, don’t ignore them. CC if you can and get them before focusing on the boss.
Mechanics

Adds
The boss will spawn little mini adds, try and taunt these best you can tank. If it means you turning around the boss towards the group, it’s not worth it. Try to range taunt and CC (crowd control) them. Chain pull works great as well.

Stranglers
Stranglers will spawn randomly, they will put up AOEs everywhere which hurt a LOT! As soon as a Strangler appears, immediately focus on it! You can tell that a Strangler is present by the AOEs it puts out. As soon as you see an AOE, look for a Strangler and get it! Tank – No need to taunt these.

Cone AOE
The boss will get up on its hind legs and slam into the ground. Any group member hit by this will go down. Tank – you have to block or evade this, it’s very powerful.
Second Boss: Caillaoife

The second boss is more challenging and is a good group tester. With the right method, it gets a lot easier!
Overview:
- Stranglers first! Always deal with stranglers as soon as you spot them no matter what else is going on.
- Watch out for the boss’ iceball attacks that trace the ground – they will one-shot you.
- The boss will surround herself with a forest and adds will spawn – deal with the adds first!
- Don’t attack the boss when she has the forest around her, it will reflect your attack back onto you!
- Face the boss away from the group! She does cone attacks and nasty ice balls.
Mechanics
Forest Shield

The boss will put up a forest around her that will shield and deflect any attacks targeted at her. Don’t attack when she is in this state! You will always have adds when she is in forest mode so deal with those while she is in there.
If you get trapped in the forest with her, you will be stunned for several seconds and you’ll be extremely vulnerable, make sure to not get stuck in there!
The best tell-sign that she is about to put up the forest are the adds. As soon as the adds spawn, she will put up the shield very shortly, make sure to distance yourself from her as soon as the adds come in.
Stranglers
The Stranglers are probably the main reason so many groups wipe on this boss. Just like the first boss, they put out extremely dangerous AOEs, and they will just keep pumping them out.
Make sure to keep an eye out for Stranglers ALL the time! As soon as you see one, deal with it immediately! Even if you have adds, Stranglers first! Always!

Iceballs

The boss will shoot out iceballs that trace the ground. These will one-shot squishy players even if you block. The tank can withstand these if you block, no problem. Just make sure she is faced away from the group.
When she is in forest mode, the tank will lose aggro, there is no way to taunt her. So she will start dispatching these ice balls at random players. Make sure to stay on your guard during the forest phase when dealing with adds. The ice balls will come out of nowhere and one-shot you!
Adds

Adds will show up whenever the boss enters forest shield mode. The tank should CC, taunt these and clump them up. Damage dealers – give it your best with AOEs, focus should be on the bigger add.
Note: There will be one bigger add, this one will perform a heavy attack, this needs to be blocked or roll-dodged! Squishy players must roll-dodge, blocking won’t cut it.
On your way to the next boss, you will enter the mines and encounter some enemies, including a Dreadhorn Earthgorer (Minotaur). Make sure the tank is blocking the magma hole the Earthgorer forms! You will also run into some Fire Shalks.
Read the top section to learn how to deal with the Minotaurs and Fire Shalks.
Third Boss: Stoneheart

Stoneheart is easier than the previous boss, as long as we follow the mechanics this won’t be much trouble.
Overview:
- The boss will animate Stone Atronachs – these are the number one priority for damage dealers.
- At 20% the boss will animate all Stone Atronachs, this is an execute phase, ignore all Atronachs and burn the boss down with Ultimates.
- The boss’ fire AOEs are bad for squishy players, stay away from them as much as you can!
Mechanics

Stone Atronachs
The boss will animate Stone Atronachs, you can see this by watching the boss, he will wave his hand and emit red magic. The red magic will flow to the Atronach about to be animated. Damage Dealers, watch out for this and get ready to take care of the Stone Atronach.
Tank – You should taunt the Stone Atronach, range taunt is easiest.

Fire AOEs
The boss will keep putting out fire AOEs at his target’s feet. Tank, you can back away when this happens so that the AOEs don’t end up near the boss. Range taunt him to keep aggro.

Fireballs
The boss will root all players and immediately start shooting out little fireballs in all directions that will trace the ground. These hurt quite a lot so back off and do your best at avoiding these!
Make sure to break free from the root so that you can avoid the fireballs!
20% Execute phase
When the boss reaches 20% he will animate ALL Stone Atronachs. This is a DPS (damage per second) race, it’s time to ignore all the Stone Atronachs and max out your damage on the boss.
It’s generally good practice to start saving up Ultimate at around 50% boss health so that you have it ready for this execute phase, it will make a big difference!
Fourth Boss: Galchobhar

This boss is a bit harder than any previous boss – You will need to obey mechanics here so pay attention. They recently nerfed this boss however so it’s a lot easier now than it used to be.
There used to be Stone Atronachs spawning throughout the fight, they have now been removed.
Overview:
- The tank has to “plug” the lava geyser to avoid a group wipe, more on this below.
- During the big AOE that covers the entire island, jump onto a rock, no sharing!
- Face the boss away from the group, he shoots out fireballs in the direction he is facing.
Mechanics
Lava Geyser

The boss will slam his mace into the ground and open up a hole in the ground. This hole will emit fireballs that will fly onto all players. This deals a ton of damage and will wipe the group!
The tank needs to stand on top of this hole and block! Make sure you don’t miss this! The healer will need to put some extra love on the tank during this phase.
Mega Blast
The boss will slam into the ground and kill anyone standing on the island. The only way to avoid this is to jump onto one of the small rocks that surround the island.

There will be a growing AOE circle expanding before he performs this attack, as soon as you see it, make your way to a free rock. Don’t share rocks! If you do, it will start melting away and you will both fall into the lava.
After he is done, on veteran difficulty there will be a firewall for a few seconds around the island, make sure you wait for this to go away before jumping back on the main island! It’s will take you out instantly.
Shalks

There will be shalks spawning throughout the fight. These shalks will be the same as the previous ones you’ve seen in this dungeon.
Focus them down as soon as they appear, and jump onto a rock if you get targeted by their homing fireball. Wait for the fireball to merge with the lava, then you are safe to jump back onto the main island.
Mini Boss: Gherig Bullblood (The trio)

Before you can engage the final boss you will face this trio of goons.
Overview:
- Kill order: Minotaur, Caster, Melee (Gherig).
- Stay away from Gherig’s big AOE! It’s very bad!
- The caster will heal, make sure to interrupt!

Start off the fight by taunting all three of them (tank). Now run away off to the side so that the caster clumps up with the other enemies. We do not want to have this fight in the middle of the stone circle as fireballs will shoot out from the crack in the middle onto players.

Attendant of Flame (Cow/Minotaur)
First, we want to focus damage on the cow. It will chain people as we’ve seen through the dungeon. Make sure to interrupt when this happens! Focus damage on the cow until it’s down. As soon as the cow goes down, this becomes a lot easier.
Attendant of Blood (Caster/Healer)
Second, we focus on the healer, she will attempt to heal, make sure to interrupt her when she does this! Apart from that, there isn’t much to say about her. As mentioned above, we don’t want to do this fight in the middle, so make sure you pull her over to the other enemies at the start of the fight.
Gherig Bullblood
Lastly, we will focus on Gherig, once the others are down, this will be easy. His big AOE is lethal and he will keep performing this attack throughout the fight, make sure to avoid it! It’s the main reason groups wipe on this trio.
He will also perform one-shot heavy attacks, tank make sure to block this and to have aggro 100% of the time on him. If he runs loose on other group members, you will probably wipe.
Final Boss: Earthgore Amalgam

The last boss in Bloodroot Forge is quite a lot trickier than any previous bosses in here. Not to worry, I will walk you through the whole process.
- This fight puts a HUGE strain on the tank – make sure you read the tank section.
- Healer, the tank will need every resource help possible, feed shards and bubbles!
- The boss will split itself into 3 versions of himself, damage should always focus on the smallest copy!
- Manage the lava with the Blood Altar.
- Manage the falling rocks with the Fire Altar.
Tank
- This will be one of the toughest fights for you in the entire game. Be prepared! When the boss splits itself, the smaller version will be a copy of the boss. This means, it will perform ALL the mechanics the big boss does, this, unfortunately, for you, includes the heavy attacks.
- Once you have 3 copies of the boss hammering you, you HAVE to pay attention to incoming heavy attacks! If you miss one block, you are down! Maintaining resources in this last stage will be very difficult. Make sure you have potions ready for the third copy of the boss, ultimate, everything you’ve got!
- Once they get the smallest 3rd copy of the boss is down, things will get a lot calmer and it should be a breeze in comparison from that point. Make sure your damage dealers are focusing on the smallest guy!
- Do NOT lose aggro on any of them at any point! I highly recommend the addon Untaunted (if you are on PC) to keep track of your taunt situation. This is one of the hardest fights to tank so don’t worry if you mess it up a few times, your group should be forgiving with this one.
Healer
- The tank will be in a massive resource pinch when 3 copies of the boss are present. Make sure to feed him/her with anything you have. Shards are ideal but bubbles are OK as well.
Mechanics
Altars (Blood and Fire)
At each end of the room, you will find two altars. These will need to be used through this fight and one person should be appointed to each altar. Generally, the damage dealers will be responsible for these.
To use an altar, walk into the bright circle that surrounds it and synergize. You will need to aim at the ground where you want the effect to happen, but what effect am I talking about? Let’s take a look.

The Blood Altar will create a rain of blood wherever you aim at the point of synergizing. This can be used to remove the flowing lava that the boss sends out (more on lava below).
The Fire Altar will hurl a fireball at your target upon synergizing with the altar. This will stun the boss. Use the fire altar when the boss is slamming the ground and rocks are falling from the sky (more on this below).
Lava
The boss will put his hand down into the ground and shoot a little lava ball that will eventually stop and form a pool of lava. This pool of lava will keep growing and get bigger. Touching the lava is of course really bad, but even getting close to it is bad as fireballs will shoot out from it targeting you.

The Blood Altar should be used to clear up these pools of lava, this is really important! Especially focus on lava pools that are in the middle of the room or close to an altar.
Falling Rocks
The boss will start slamming the ground and rocks will fall from the ceiling. Getting hit by one of these rocks will result in death. You CAN block them, or roll-dodge. Try to stay calm and step aside from the incoming rocks and get ready to block.

The Fire Altar can be used to stop the rocks from falling. When the boss is slamming the ground, aim at the boss’ feet and use the Fire Altar to stun him.
Boss Split
The boss will spawn a smaller version of itself. This will happen twice so you will have a total of 3 bosses to deal with.
The boss will split at the following health percentages:
70% – 40%
Each split will be smaller than the last – damage should ALWAYS be focused on the smallest copy. Once the third copy is out, drop Ultimates on it and get it down as quickly as possible!

Though they are smaller, they still perform the exact same mechanics that the large boss does. This includes lava and rocks falling. When all three are out, it’s going to get really hairy, the smallest one needs to go down fast fast fast! Focus all damage on the smallest one! After it’s down, move on to the second smallest one until it is down. At this point, the fight will turn very calm and it should not be too difficult to finish this fight off.
While high DPS helps here, if you target your damage in the right place, you don’t need super high DPS. Just make sure to focus your damage on the smallest boss and it will be fine. Save your Ultimates for the third copy!
Final Boss: Hard Mode
The final boss in Bloodroot Forge is very very difficult on hard mode (HM) and I do not recommend you attempt this until you have a good handle on the regular fight on Veteran.
To activate hard mode in Bloodroot Forge you need to read the Scroll of Glorious Battle located by the chest that appears after beating the Bullblood Trio. Hard Mode is only available on Veteran difficulty.
Overview:
- The main difference is that now you are not allowed to use the Altars.
- The boss has more health as well.
- Everything else will be the same.
Dealing with the falling rocks without using an Altar is not the end of the world, you just need to get used to side-stepping and avoiding the rocks, it might take some practice but should be pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
The hardest bit here is managing the lava. Since we can no longer cleanse the lava with the blood altar, we are going to get a lot of it by the end. Having high DPS while doing this on hard mode really does help, the faster they go down, the less lava you will have to deal with.
Once you have all three copies of the boss, the lava will fill up really really quickly. If you are not fast about taking care of the additional spawns, you will very shortly have a room packed with lava and you will wipe.
What seems to work best here is to walk the boss around the edge of the room trying to fill up the edges with lava bit by bit. However, the boss will sometimes turn around and shoot lava in a random direction that will end up in the middle of the room. You are just going to need a little bit of luck here as well.
Make sure to deal with the third copy fast!!! If a damage dealer is dead when the third add spawns, it’s most likely a wipe. You need max DPS right away on the third copy!
Keep trying and you will eventually get it, like I said, a bit of luck with the lava will go a long way on this fight.
Thank you for reading this guide! I hope you found it useful and that it got you out of a sticky situation.
I try to create thorough beginner-friendly guides to help not only experienced players but also newer players who want to attempt some of the harder content in the game.
My goal is that everyone should be able to experience the Elder Scrolls Online’s best and entertaining content (which is usually pretty hard).
If there were any parts of this guide that you found confusing, unclear or if you just have a better method, please let me know! I would love to improve as much as possible!
Thanks again. <3
